What Does OG Mean? There’s some great internet lore around the origins of the OG Kush strain. The most coherent is on Seedfinder. It lists two different stories about the origin of the mighty OG Kush, the longer of the two says:

In late ’93 John from Grass Valley Ca. got the Chem Dog cut. He shared it with me, Jerry(cowboy) from Dibble Creek Ca. and Harold(Putz) from Sunset Beach Ca. Putz had a male he called the secret ingredient. It was a cross of Lemon Thai and an Old World Paki Kush. Putz bred the secret ingredient to the Chem Dog. Putz laughed and told him “this Kush is Ocean Grown Kush bro”.

The Headband strain is OG Kush crossed with Sour Diesel. The buds are tight and wrapped in beautiful frosty trichome goodness. The Grape Ape strain is a mostly Indica cross of Mendocino Purps, Skunk, and Afghani. It was created by Apothecary Genetics and Barney’s Farm. Most say that the original Grape Ape strain is Afghani X Skunk #1 but there’s also rumblings of the GDP and the Urkle also being in the genetic mix. Probably something similar to what we saw in the Querkle strain we reviewed. Grape-ape weed is tight, dense and compact with a nice frost and tinges of purple. In a bong or a joint Grape Ape weed tastes sweet, and oh so grapey—with some subtle earthy hints to it. Plus the mighty Grape Ape strain is stoney as all get out. 26. G13

The G13 strain is the stuff of legend. Or complete bullshit. Some say that G13 weed was created by the CIA, FBI, NIDA and other agencies who gathered the best weed strains from breeders all over the world. Then they created the super-potent G13 strain at the University of Mississippi in the late 1960s. Allegedly a cutting was eventually smuggled out by an undercover stoner. We saw the weed given to Irv Rosenfeld by the federal government. That’s no bullshit. This guy has been getting pot grown by the government at Ol Miss for decades. Only problem? It’s bunk as fuck—dry, brittle and pretty much ineffective. He told us he unrolls each joint collects all the weed and puts it in a baggie with a piece of lettuce to re-hydrate it. he then re-rolls it and smokes about 10 joints a day. Is this stuff the legendary G13 strain? We sure hope not because it sucked ass.

Sometimes referred to as Fruity Pebbles OG, the strain was created by Alien Genetics as a limited-time offering. Glad Fruity Pebbles weed stuck around because the stuff is pure stuff stoners like.

29. Chemdawg

According to Lefly, Chemdawg has developed quite the name for itself over the years. Between its mysterious origin, ambiguous genetics, and the plethora of successful crosses the strain has produced, Chemdawg has practically secured itself a permanent place in the cannabis hall of fame. We couldn’t agree more. Sometimes written as Chem Dog or Chem Dawg, not matter how ya spell it, Chemdawg genetics are the basis of powerhouse pot strains like Sour Diesel and OG Kush as well as OG Chem (ChemDawg X OG Kush) and StarDawg (Chemdawg 4 X Tres Dawg). Chemdawg has a few close phenotypes, Chemdawg 91 and Chemdawg 4. However all Chemdawg strains are know for their distinct, diesel-like aroma and flavor.

We’re looking to review some Blueberry Kush. Apparently the Blueberry Kush strain originated in Oregon a Blueberry and OG Kush hybrid.

31. Cherry Pie

The Cherry Pie weed strain is a strong Indica. Just a slice or two of the Cherry Pie strain left our reviewer feeling calm, relaxed and without a care in the world. She said that the now famous Cherry Pie marijuana strain gave her a very cheerful, upbeat and kind of goofy high—she even found herself frequently breaking out into song singing Cherry Pie by Warrant. What exactly are the Cherry Pie strain genetics? Granddaddy Purple and Durban Poison. There are a few crosses out there touting the Cherry Pie strain genetics that sounds fantastic including Cherry Pie Kush, Cherry Kush or Cherry OG Kush. 33. LA Confidential

The LA Confidential weed strain is bred from the two Indica strains. Apparently the LA Confidential strain genetics are OG LA Affie and Afghani. Both strains are purebred which make for a very tasty and heavy Indica offspring. LA Confidential weed is a light seafoam green color bursting with lots of long orange hairs and covered in trichomes. When you break the bud open you uncover even more trichomes. The leaves are longer but look almost snow-capped because of all the frosty goodness. At first this strain smells mellow and almost minty with hints of spice and tea. When you break it open you are welcomed with a piercing piney scent. The taste? The LA Confidential weed strain tastes piney and goes down oh so smooth. And the high kicks in quick and is definitely a strong one—both psychedelic and super calming on the mind and body. LA Confidential is a great strain for any Indica lover. Check out our first LA Confidential strain review.

34. Strawberry Cough

Strawberry Cough weed has an overwhelming aroma of sweet ripe strawberries. The story behind the strawberry cough genetics is an interesting one. Apparently the Strawberry Cough strain got it’s name because the original breeder started with a strain called Strawberry Fields. The Strawberry Fields strain is a 100% Indica strain that originated in Vermont. Dude grew it for many years with his strawberry plants. Internet folklore states: He claimed that the original scent of strawberries was intensified in the weed because the plants were grown together. However the high wasn’t as cerebral as hoped. He took an outstanding Pure Haze male and crossed it with his best female flowering in his strawberry fields. These are essentially strawberry cough seeds, but not the clone that’s going around. The Strawberry Cough pheno clone was found in sorting through dozens of these seeds that were given to Kyle Kushman— a 5-time High Times Cannabis Cup winner, Instructor at Oaksterdam University, California-based cannabis consult and ex-cultivation writer for High Times mag. That’s why you’ll sometimes see this strain billed as Kyle Kushmans Strawberry Cough. Why’s it named Strawberry Cough though? The Strawberry part is obvious, however when it’s smoked, along with that summery strawberry flavor and aroma comes an expanding sensation that can make even the most seasoned consumer cough.
